Tonights Game an Audition for Contreras?

Tonight, the Chicago Whitesox will send the discouraged Jose Contreras to the mound in what could be his last game with Chicago. U.S.S. Mariner reports that Mariner scouts will be watching closely and if they like what they see, Contreras may switch clubhouses by tomorrow. The 36 year-old right-hander has had a terrible 2007 season thus far and temporarily lost his spot in the rotation. He is 6-14 with a 6.24 era, which is still more than 1.14 points better than Horacio Ramirez. And this is Contreras at his absolute worst. I'm convinced that moving from the blast-pad that is U.S. Cellular Field to pitcher-friendly Safeco could only help him. He won 15 games in 05 and 13 games in 06, with era's of 3.61 and 4.27 respectively. Though he is owed 20 million dollars over the next two years, Contreras is the best pitcher that could be still on the market, having cleared waivers earlier this week. I'm actually rooting for Contreras tonight; I hope he brings his A game to impress the scouts and the front office. Maybe we can win a 1-0 game or something...

I'm okay with Contreras. Sure, he's not great anymore, but Safeco will definitely help him out...and he's definitely better than Ho.

Come on 1-0 Mariners win!! I'd be happy to see us win on a 9th inning walkoff and have Contreras cross over the field and join us in the clubhouse to celebrate a win with his new team tonight...Of course he's an upgrade over Ho "Chi Man I Suck" Ramirez...Hell I'D BE AN UPGRADE ON RAMIREZ RIGHT NOW (I'm dead serious)...

What I kind of hope happens is that Contreras has a superficially "bad" game, meaning he gives up some runs, but most are due to shitty defense behind him. That way, in actuality he pitched well, but at the same time, it might drive his value down a little bit more.

To phil:

He passed waivers. He's free game now, and not just first come first serve.

I hope its scoreless in the 9th, and with 1 out he strikes out Lopez for the 26th out, also his 26th K, and then Betancourt hits the first pitch out for a 1-0 win.

A lil bit of sarcasm in that prayer, but it runs along the lines of how I want him to pitch. I want him to impress us.

Contreras getting knocked around a good bit here in the first.

Contreras didn't look too bad tonight...He pitched well enough to give the White Sox a chance to win...I think I'd still take him over Horacio "Disgracio" Ramirez...

I really hope we pick up Contreras the more I think about it...I mean we should do it just so we'll have 4 JOSES on the team...I see a great potential marketing ploy...
